HOW TO GET STARTED: LINK YOUR ACCOUNTS FIRST
You will need both a free World of Hyatt account and a free Air Canada Aeroplan account. The names on both accounts must match exactly. Once that is confirmed, you can link them through either program’s website to unlock the various partnership benefits.
If you do not already have one or both of these accounts, both are completely free to join and worth having regardless of this partnership.
POINT TRANSFERS BETWEEN HYATT AND AEROPLAN
The Hyatt Aeroplan partnership introduces two-way point transfers between the programs.
Any World of Hyatt member can transfer points in this direction: 2 Hyatt points convert to 1 Aeroplan point, with a minimum transfer of 5,000 Hyatt points.
Transfers in the other direction require Aeroplan elite status: 2 Aeroplan points convert to 1 Hyatt point, with a minimum transfer of 500 Aeroplan points.
Both World of Hyatt points and Air Canada Aeroplan points are genuinely valuable currencies: Hyatt points for luxury hotel redemptions, Aeroplan points for some of the best business class sweet spots available.
If you need 35,000 Hyatt points for a Park Hyatt night and you only have 30,000, and you happen to have Aeroplan points sitting unused, transferring to fill the gap could save the booking.
REDEEM AEROPLAN POINTS FOR HYATT FREE NIGHT AWARDS
One of the more interesting additions in the Hyatt Aeroplan partnership is the ability to redeem Aeroplan points directly for Hyatt Free Night Awards, without going through the standard point transfer.
Here are the redemption rates:
- 25,000 Aeroplan points for a Category 1 through 4 Free Night Award.

The Category 4 option is genuinely worth considering at the right property. Hyatt normally charges between 12,000 and 25,000 points per night for Category 4 hotels.
If you find a Category 4 property priced at the top of that range; say, 25,000 Hyatt points per night, then redeeming 25,000 Aeroplan points for that same night becomes an effective 1:1 transfer. That is significantly better than the standard 2:1 transfer rate.
The Category 7 option is harder to justify. Category 7 hotels max out at 55,000 Hyatt points per night. Spending 75,000 Aeroplan points for a certificate that covers a 55,000-point night is not a great return; better than 2:1, but still not something we would rush to do unless you have Aeroplan points specifically earmarked for hotel use with no better option.
The sweet spot: use the 25,000 Aeroplan point Free Night Award at an expensive Category 4 property where the value per point approaches 1:1. Do the math on your specific property before committing.
EARN AEROPLAN POINTS ON HYATT STAYS
The Hyatt Aeroplan partnership also gives Aeroplan members the option to earn 500 Aeroplan points per eligible Hyatt stay instead of Hyatt points.
One reason to consider this option is if you have a specific Aeroplan redemption coming up and need to top off your balance by a small amount. .
THE MOST EXCITING PART: THE ELITE STATUS OPPORTUNITIES
This is where the Hyatt Aeroplan partnership gets genuinely interesting, and where most people should spend the majority of their attention.
AEROPLAN ELITES CAN NOW FAST-TRACK TO HYATT GLOBALIST
If you have any level of Aeroplan elite status, you can now register for a 90-day Hyatt status challenge with significantly reduced night requirements:
- Complete 4 qualifying nights to earn Hyatt Discoverist.
- Complete 10 qualifying nights to earn Hyatt Explorist.
- Complete 20 qualifying nights to earn Hyatt Globalist.
To put those numbers in context: Hyatt Globalist is the top tier of the World of Hyatt program, which unlocks complimentary breakfast, suite upgrades, guaranteed late checkout, and club access at most properties; normally requires 60 qualifying nights in a calendar year. This status challenge cuts that down to 20 nights for anyone with eligible Aeroplan status.
THE MARRIOTT PATH TO HYATT GLOBALIST (YES, REALLY)

Marriott Bonvoy Titanium and Ambassador members can already receive complimentary Aeroplan 25K status by linking their Marriott Bonvoy and Aeroplan accounts, a benefit that already existed through the separate Marriott and Aeroplan partnership.
Since Aeroplan 25K qualifies as Aeroplan elite status, those Marriott Titanium members can now register for Hyatt’s new status challenge through the Hyatt Aeroplan partnership.
What this means in practice: if you have Marriott Titanium status earned through Marriott stays, the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card, or another path, you can now use that status, via Aeroplan, to pursue Hyatt Globalist through a 20-night challenge.
